August 16th-22nd Training Results

Ok I know I’m a bit late to the party with this post, but it is time to take a look at what I was supposed to do last week (August 16th through 22nd) and what I actually did. Also I need to break down the good, the bad, and give out the details.

What I was supposed to do:

  • Swim: 6,000 yards
  • Bike: 4.5 hours
  • Run: 26 miles
  • Strength: 3 days

What I actually did:

  • Swim: 4,050 yards
  • Bike: 3 hours
  • Run: 23.83 miles
  • Strength: 2 days

This was one of those hard, but transition to taper weeks.  It was supposed to end with a 10 mile run, but due to the lack of working out on Friday, I switched it to a brick of 1 hour bike followed by an 8.7 mile run.  I would have run longer, but I was on a time crunch.  Friday’s lack of working out killed the hopes of completing what was written down to do.  I missed out on a swim and a bike ride.  Additionally Thursday’s cycling was cut short due to the colder weather that I wasn’t prepared for.  Finally, what made this tricky was having kids home all day Monday and Tuesday and still trying to figure out how to get everything in.

What I am most proud of this past week is two things.  The first being that the brick workout was phenomenal.  I felt fresh throughout most of the run.  Additionally on the bike that day, I was finally able to make a turn going 20+ mph.  This turn is after a nice downhill where I have reached speeds as high as 35mph.  Normally I am right around 20mph when I go into the turn and about 17.5-18 when I finish it.  This time, I was around 22mph and 20.5mph when I finished it.  That was amazing.

One of my strength days was Tapout XT2 Drench at home DVD.  This workout was killer.  So killer in fact that I didn’t even finish it.  I had to tapout 45 minutes into the 60 minute workout.  I plan to incorporate these workouts going forward into my week, picking one at random and then reviewing it later on if I complete it.

All in all I am happy with the work I put in this week.  I feel very confident going into my race this weekend that I am as properly prepared as I can be.  I have a goal in mind for the race and I will post that with my race recap next week.
